Satya Yoga Center, a popular Hudson Valley yoga studio based in Rhinebeck, New York, opens a Catskill, New York location in March 2008.
Health and wellness are important to the residents of the Hudson Valley, and yoga seems to be gaining in popularity in the area. Of the many yoga studios in the valley, one of the leaders is Satya Yoga Center, located at 6400 Montgomery St. in the heart of the Rhinebeck village. Registered yoga teachers Jessie Lee Montague and Sondra Loring are the co-directors of Satya Yoga Center, and the Rhinebeck location has a full schedule of classes for yogis of all levels.
Satya Yoga Center in Rhinebeck offers classes seven days a week and a variety of different styles are taught at the studio. For those who enjoy Svaroopa yoga but find it hard to locate a class in the Hudson Valley, Melissa Parsons teaches a Svaroopa class on Monday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. (Parsons also teaches Svaroopa yoga with Nicolas Dalton at Union Yoga, their studio in Hudson, New York.)
In addition to Svaroopa, Iyengar Yoga (with Barbara Boris), Anusara, and Vinyasa are also taught here. There are classes suitable for all levels; however, some classes are not suitable for very beginners, so Satya Yoga Center in Rhinebeck holds periodic "Very Beginner" workshops, for those who are new to yoga.
Satya Yoga Center in Rhinebeck also offers a yearly teacher training. This 200 hour level teacher training held each September to June is certified by the Yoga Alliance.
In 2003, Satya Yoga Center expanded to Hudson, New York, when Sondra Loring opened Sadhana Center for Yoga and Meditation, a "sister studio" located at 403 Warren Street.
The Greene County branch of Satya Yoga Center is scheduled to open on March 1, 2008. The new studio is located at 352 Main Street, Catskill, New York, and will offer classes similar to those at the Rhinebeck location. The Satya Yoga Center Catskill schedule offers a weekly Wednesday evening "Very Beginner" class (at 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.) which should be popular with those just getting into yoga.
Satya Yoga Center in Catskill officially opens its doors on March 1, 2008. On March 2, the studio hosts an opening celebration. From 10 to 11:30 a.m. there will be a free yoga class; at 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the studio hosts an open house with live music and refreshments, and all are welcome to attend.
A single class at the Satya Yoga Center Rhinebeck and Catskill locations costs $15 (senior citizens get a discounted rate of $13.)
